SOYLENT GREEN IS MADE OUT OF OGRES!
|
Green of mega-proportions will be oozing out of theatres this weekend, as DreamWorks Animation rolls out their 800-pound ogre “Shrek Forever After” in over 4,000 theatres. Billed at “The Final Chapter,” (Hmm…so was Friday the 13th Part IV“) the fourth entry in the series that has grossed over $2.2 billion worldwide will likely deliver a knock-out box office debut of over $100 million, just as “Shrek the Third” ($121 million) and “Shrek 2” ($108 million) did.
Considering it is the highest grossing animated series in the history of filmdom, and the fact that this one significantly re-energizes the franchise after a lackluster three-quel, let’s giant-size this order: $125 million. Remember, 3-D prices are in full-effect for this edition, and there hasn’t been a family flick in theatres since DreamWorks Animation’s “How to Train Your Dragon,” which has only now begun to flame out after eight weeks.
Also opening, is SNL’s “MacGruber.” All the Will Forte fans say, “Holla.” Um…all the people who remember “MacGyver” say, “Woot. Woot. Where’s the beef?” Er…okay, so maybe Universal’s hard, R-rated comedy missed its core audience by twenty or so years. Opening in 2,400 theatres, let’s give it the benefit of the doubt, it kinda looks funny…although I know who Will Forte is and used to watch “MacGyver:” $13 million. Woot. Woot. Holla!
