80's Nostalgia Totally Goes Mainstream
|
Kick off your Sunday shoes. Loose, “Footloose” is rebooting into theatres June 18, 2010. And hey, if Walkmans, leg warmers, and cheesy 80’s clothing wasn’t in vogue now, no doubt it will be next summer, as both "The A-Team" and "The Karate Kid" open the weekend previous. I pity the fool who doesn't believe the 80's are back! "Flashdance" and "Dirty Dancing" can't be far behind now...
Now that the "Footloose" theme song is running through your head, you’re probably wondering if Kenny Loggins will team up with Puff Daddy for the remastered soundtrack, right? Can’t wait to hear P.’s take on Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Holding Out For a Hero.’
Well, no word from Paramount on the musical stylings front, but Kenny Ortega is rumored to be the director. Ortega most recently directed the ultra-popular High School Musical trilogy, and is no stranger to musicals, as he also helmed “Newsies,” starring Christian Bale, for Walt Disney back in the early 90’s.
As far as casting goes, nothing is confirmed. Earlier, Zac Efron was set to take the lead, but has since dropped out. Isn’t Kevin Bacon available? That man hasn’t aged in 20+ years, and I bet he could still cut loose if he had to.
Interestingly enough, this will be the counter programming alternative, as Disney’s “Toy Story 3” also opens the same weekend, and is widely expected to be one of the top grossing films next summer.
